The Fire

It started with the microwave not working. Heating soup on the stove. A burner left on, a chopping board too close. The fire smoldered for hours, burning the stove and singeing nearby cabinets. The real damage was from the smoke that infiltrated the house for hours and hours.

Everything had to go - either removed and remediated or torn out altogether, like carpeting. All the wood trim and flooring had to be remediated for the smoke damage.

Seeing floors for the first time ever revealed some shortcomings.

Threading new flooring with the old.

The original stairs were beautiful once re-done.

There is nothing like century old floors newly re-refinished.

An upside of smoke damage? The opportunity to get all new furniture: Anthropologie Home and Pottery Barn.

The kitchen, after. With a microwave that works. No more soup heating on the stove.
